I am not happy with the color of the fringe on the burr oak. None of the watercolor choices I had matched it, so I picked a yellow. Too bright and not natural looking. I also had trouble with the pattern on the cap. I’m doing a second page of a different acorn. I hope to complete it tomorrow.
Hi Nancy, You are being really hard on yourself. The firnge looks great and the color seems fine to me. All of these drawing are exquisite. I especially love the live oak color drawing. That highlight is so believable!

@tkurtr I love this page. Especially the live oak and bur oak nuts! The subtle striations at the base of the bur nut are so lovely. Great line drawings of the patterns, too! I think you also showed the 2 parts of the bur oak together very well–good, dark overlaps where the nut sits inside the cup. Very well done, Nancy!
I’ve never seen a bur oak but I know what a bladder nut is and that is perfect. The only place I know that they grow is upstate New York. I did a drawing of a bladder nut a while ago but yours is the only other one I’ve ever seen. They make a great sound in a light breeze after the seeds have dried. Reminds me oh home.
I love this page – beautiful colors on the acorns and the drawings great. The bur oak is lovely. The bur oak I drew was old and dried, so the detail was hard to capture – great job!

Love the scientific line drawings. Add a lot to page and understanding of nut structure.
Nancy – I really like these – especially that burr oak not with it’s fringe – I’ve never seen anything like that! Very cool drawings!
Sorry – meant “burr oak nut”, not “burr oak not”!

Thanks for all the comments.
These are really terrific… I especially like the contrast between the color and graphite textures.
