Last year, I tried drawing gourds looking directly down on them….but was not very successful. I photographed this and used the individual drawings as well as the photograph to draw and shade it. I feel like the rind of the middle lime is too strong. It seems to draw your eye to that area. Any comments would be appreciated.
it is so summery, I love the composition. love the use of space and the grouping of the elements. love the lighting and colour- it’s such a fresh page. i love it.

Nancy, the highlights on the lemon and orange here are totally stunning. I enjoy this composition because by cropping it, you keep me guessing by concealing some of the information that would “complete” some of these whole fruits. Coupled with the strong diagonal of negative space, it is very dynamic. I think the reason that one bit of rind stands out is because it is in stark contrast to that diagonal, and thus becomes a focal point. What if you were to add in some leaves or flowers from one of these fruits? Seeds? To help make the focal point more complex/interesting? I am enjoying this drawing a lot. Great work!
Thank you for all the comments and suggestions. I appreciate the comment about the strong diagonal in the composition. I think having broken up the circular cut lime with one of the wedges that are behind it would have helped also now that I look at it more.

Nancy – those whole fruits look so real! Really great job!
I agree with Marci- I had to look twice at the whole orange and lemon to figure out if they were drawings! so realistic- !

Love the rich, pure colours in your fruit, Nancy. And you’ve really captured the texture — so realistic.
