Hi all! I was fortunate to be in Wendy’s recent Find Your Flow Botanical course and felt the need to continue the subject matter. With spring right around the corner, I am excited by all the possibilities! View
Tracie, I love that there is a little hint of green (Spring!?) on that one branch. 🙂 I think you got some really nice dark tones showing the cylindrical shapes of these branches. I suggest working a little more on the highlights on the top two branches; they feel a little like a straight white line down the center of the branch. The highlight should feel subtle, gradually getting lighter and lighter, and you can break up the highlight a little bit so it comes and goes and shimmers a little bit. You can also scoot those highlights to the left just a little bit more so they don’t feel like they are right in the center. Your cast shadows are nice and subtle; just remember to push that cast shadow right up to the edge of the form so there is not a white space between the form and the cast shadow. Great work!
Thank you for the input! I will rework the highlights a bit as you suggested. A question about the cast shadow,. You said to put the cast shadow right to the edge of the form so there isn’t a white space between the form and the cast shadow. Is this true for the branches that are not directly on the ground as well?
