Workshop Description

Get ready to take a closer look—literally! In this fun and relaxed online workshop, you’ll learn how to study and magnify small wildflowers to share their hidden beauty on a larger scale. Whether you’re admiring milkweed,  lavender, forget-me-not, or other wildflowers in your area, you’ll discover that some of the most breathtaking botanical details are tucked inside the tiniest blooms.

What We’ll Practice

🌼 Observation & Study of Small Flowers: Use magnifying tools to explore the fascinating details of petals, stamens, pistils, and more.
🎨 Drawing on a Larger Scale: Learn techniques for enlarging delicate flower parts without losing their natural charm or proportion.
✏️ Watercolor and Colored Pencil Techniques: Combine the fluidity of watercolor with the precision of colored pencils to create vibrant, dimensional drawings.
🖼️ Composition Tips for Engaging Artwork: Discover how to arrange magnified elements into a composition that tells a botanical story.

Recommended Supplies:

NOTE: In addition to our usual supplies, you will need: a magnifying glass, jeweler’s loupe, or microscope. 1cm grid graph paper.

Find all of the supplies that we recommend here. Feel free to follow along with any supplies you have (your result may just end up looking a little different). Our lessons are about a combination of fundamental 3D art concepts and colored pencil and watercolor technique, so you can skip the supplies-specific tips and still learn a lot about art basics including perspective, light source, composition, etc. One of the main points we teach is colored pencil and watercolor technique for slow, continuous toning, but as long as you are able to achieve the same blending result with your chosen materials, you can still benefit from our course lessons.
