RECORDED September 17 & 21, 2023
Instructors: Pam & Sam
Level: All levels
Botanical Subject(s): Lilies and other flowers (We will focus on dissecting and drawing parts of a lily together. Pam & Sam will bring additional flowers for comparison.)
Peek inside nature’s window, and explore the mysterious world of flowers, undressed. Learn to dissect these delicate blooms to uncover the mesmerizing secrets to how plants reproduce and create fruiting bodies and seedpods. Our mission? To enjoy the art of identifying, magnifying, and sketching their reproductive components.
We will venture into the depths of jewel-like ovaries, dissecting them under magnification to notice patterns similar to the mature fruit that develops. With pencils in hand, we will capture every intricate detail and explore how to organize these awe-inspiring inner treasures into a stunning composition.
We encourage collaboration and community, and we strive to create a safe environment for everyone to draw together. Instructors provide live demonstrations of relevant techniques on the first day of a workshop and constructive critiques of your work on the second day. Don’t be shy! Ask any and all questions you may have; the answers could benefit all participants.
Our workshops include a set of pre-recorded videos for you to watch as you prepare for class, as well as recordings of each workshop session. ALL of the registration and video material for this workshop is delivered to you via email. Please be sure to add firstname.lastname@example.org to your email contacts so that you do not miss important correspondence from us!
NOTE: In addition to our usual supplies, you will need:
+ Cutting board (or other surface you can cut on)
+ Razor blades or scalpels
+ Magnifier (either a physical magnifying glass or an app on your phone)
Find all of the supplies that we recommend here. Feel free to follow along with any supplies you have (your result may just end up looking a little different). Our lessons are about a combination of fundamental 3D art concepts and colored pencil and watercolor technique, so you can skip the supplies-specific tips and still learn a lot about art basics including perspective, light source, composition, etc. One of the main points we teach is colored pencil and watercolor technique for slow, continuous toning, but as long as you are able to achieve the same blending result with your chosen materials, you can still benefit from our course lessons.
Cancellations at least two weeks in advance will receive a 75% refund. If you cancel less than one week up to 48 hours before the event, you will receive a 50% refund (less 5% processing fee) if we can find someone to replace your spot. Less than 48 hours cancellation, we cannot issue a refund. You will still receive all recordings from the workshop, and you can watch them at your convenience.
We reserve the right to cancel a workshop at any time. If we cancel a workshop, you will receive a full refund.
