The Practice of Botanical Drawing Discussion Board 7 years agoThanks Carol! I can’t wait to see what this flower is going to look like when it opens. The suspense is killing me. -

Photo in the group The Practice of Botanical Drawing Discussion Board 7 years agoI worked on the leaves and stem, added a sliced open seed pod and darkened the seed pod on the right using a more mature seed pod. Now I’ve lost my previous pod that had more green! 🙁

Photo in the group The Practice of Botanical Drawing Discussion Board 7 years agoI love the bunch, the seeds, and the sliced open grape halves! I wonder if saturated color on a few grapes and a tiny bit of variation of the size of the highlights on a few grapes might pop a few out. Not sure. I love the overlaps, too.

Photo in the group The Practice of Botanical Drawing Discussion Board 7 years agoThis is another try at an orchid composition. This time I’m just kind of winging it. My loose plan is to keep adding to it as the flower opens, and have the fully open bloom around where the green tape is, and then add a few to the right of that as the flower fades.

Photo in the group The Practice of Botanical Drawing Discussion Board 7 years agoThank you for the input! I will rework the highlights a bit as you suggested. A question about the cast shadow,. You said to put the cast shadow right to the edge of the form so there isn’t a white space between the form and the cast shadow. Is this true for the branches that are not directly on the ground as well?

Photo in the group The Practice of Botanical Drawing Discussion Board 7 years agoThe common name in English is Birthwort and in Spanish it’s candiles. These vines are growing in the mountains behind us. I’m wondering about the leaves, especially on the left. Also, I want to put in a dissection of the flower on the bottom left.
