I like how you are adding as the plant grows, just keep going and yes wait to add roots at the end. Is this one orchid blooming or are there more than one flower? Can you send some photos too?

It is one plant. Right now it is still in bud, and I’m just guessing what it might look like once it starts opening to figure out the composition. Here’s a photo of the orchid

My understanding is that a botanical drawing gives as much information as possible. With that in mind, I would say keep drawing, roots, blooms, buds…But, I understand your quandary too. Sometimes I love the plainness, the essence of a plant. So where do we start and stop here??? Is… -

The Practice of Botanical Drawing Discussion Board 7 years, 1 month agoVern, thank you for taking the time to make some comments on my drawing. You are right that a real daffodil is beter, but there are no at this time. So I practice now the technique and later I will draw a real daffodil.
For the shadow I used Light Yellow Ochre and Burnt Ochre. -

Thanks, Sheila. I actually started over. The stem was wonky and driving me crazy. But now I think my second attempt may end up worse. We’ll see

I’ve been trying to use an embossing tool for hairs on a similar stem, but even with my smallest tool, the hairs look too big, and aren’t convincing. Yours are perfect!!
