I’m so glad that you were brave and posted this! Good job. We are all here to learn. Our own drawings are never as bad as we think. 🙂 All of us “instructors” have drawers full of “lost” drawings.:)

Framed the onion for my teenage daughter. She and her school class have a long running onion joke going on. She wanted this picture for her bedroom. 🙂 -

I know that as teachers you have seen hundreds of tomatos drawn by newbies. Where like mine the reference highlight is not in the right place and the shadow is all wrong and the dark areas are too dark in some places and not quite dark enough in others. This tomato to me represents something I was positive I could never ever do. Thank you for such…[Read more]

Hi Linda, This is one good looking tomato. Great job! You have every right to be proud of it. Since you are asking for more critique, I will give it to you, but enjoy your moment. This is fine work!
-
My critique would be that the reflective light should have a smoother transition into the tomato. Also it should be darker and redder. Check out the reflective light on my tomato. Also, add a more distinctive core shadow. I’d use a maroon so the color stays vibrant. Maybe some dark sepia in the darkest part. And one other thing, think about the “…[Read more]

Oh my goodness! Those curves along the edges are fabulous and the colours both on the flowers and the stem are so beautiful.
I’m so impressed with all the talent in this group. -

Graceful, beautiful, calm, elegant, regal. 🙂 Love the contour marks, and the light shimmering.
-
What a beautiful striking composition. Those bends and curves in those petals are great – masterful use of contour lines and light. And I love that little peak of whatever is inside that petal on the lower left. Wonderful.

Beautiful!

I feel like the upper left flower needs an anchor – maybe a stem going off the left side of the page or the top? What do you all think.
-
Just seeing your note here so many months later! Did you anchor it? I like the idea of that upper left flower being attached to something – even if it’s just suggested in lightly…

YES!

I love everything about this. LOVE how you are keeping the curved tone bars in these drawings. It really adds to the overall composition. The lettering is lovely, and of course, the onion remains the beautiful star of the show. What a treat for your daughter.

Hi Peta- the leaf drawing is really well done! As is the view of the branch and seed pods! Beautiful work! My comment would be on the leaves. While we draw leaves with a dark side and a light side both respective sides do have both dark and light areas on them just in different ratios. Your leaves are too divided down the middle with a dark and…[Read more]
