Here’s an update on the lily. Changed the drawing around the lily, and added more color.

Wow! This is so beautiful Karye! The colors and details are stunning and I really like the composition you have in mind! You could add more dark toning where the stamen would be casting a shadow and that would make the center pop even more! One note: it always looks better when (for example: the edge of a flower and the edge of a leaf do NOT line…[Read more]

Hi Karye- I love the mix of graphite and color! Your reflected light is so well done! Bravo! I have a couple of points about consistency. Your graphite tomato has cast shadows on the tomato, but I don’t see them on the red version. It seems the top, right sepal and the center stem would cast a shadow. Also, the cut image should have a reflected l…[Read more]

I enjoy the strong visual impact of the piece Karye! Especially since you have shadow toning behind the flower I would expect to see more toning where the petals overlap, the areas of the petals where they near the stamens and shadows cast by the stamens. You have done overlay toning on a couple of petals near the bottom and I would continue that.

Hi Denise- the blue/purple color of the petals is beautiful! A very hard color to capture successfully. The seed head needs some highlights to give both the individual seeds and the whole head some form. Even dark colored subjects need highlights on them. The leaf is hard for me to read. There is a white line that cuts the leaf in half and I am…[Read more]

Wonderful colors Helene! I feel like it needs some sort of representation of leaves on the left side of the stem. I know you were drawing what you saw, but in the future try to avoid parts lining up. I am referring to how the bottom petals on the flower (on the right) lines up with the bottom of the leaf to it’s left. It would have been better f…[Read more]

Hi Doug, Your suggestions paid off. The flowers look more like part of a whole and the bulb solidifies the whole. Thank you. Let me know what you think.
