Good call from Vern and nice fix from you! I might even add just a touch of cast shadow where the sepal meets the rose to indicate that it curves under the flower.

I love how the pomegranate feels ripped open. The edges are handled in such a way that I can feel the moment before where someone took their fingers and split it apart.

The pomegranates were growing here in a friends garden. They split open after a rain.

Hi Karen- you are off to a good start! The flower is nicely rendered! White flowers often have a bit of blue and/or green and you can use those colors to add toning. Thank you Doug. I watched the leaf video after doing this one, and hopefully the oak leaf drawing is better. Still hard to do subtle veining!

Will try some green or blue on white flowers. These were so starkly white it was hard to get the feeling!

Beautiful leaf Karen! Keep working on the smooth, even layers of toning. The acorn could use more toning to convey it’s form.

Back to the acorn. My fridge is full of specimens. So many plants to draw…so little time. Haha

Yes, Hydrangeas are challenging! I love this drawing as it is. The colors are spectacular! The deep greens agains the saturated colors, so beautiful! And it really gives the essence of the hydrangea. Hi Diane- is this a slipper orchid? I am confused by the red/green area above the pink petals. Not sure how to read that middle section. A little more dark toning would help in other areas – like the underside of the green leaf.

Hi Mary- you have a good range of tones. The highlight could be stronger especially on the two on the left. Keep practicing even layers of smooth toning. The fruit is looking grainy especially in the lighter and mid-tones.

Hi Doug, Any tips for even layers of toning? Less pressure, smaller areas at one time? I don’t know what or how to modify to get a different result. Thanks so much for your help.
