Thank you @sam-mcwilliams for the helpful tips. I have added a slight bit of warmth and some darkness in areas (not sure if it shows in this photo). I also added some bumpiness to the contour lines, because thats how the coral is in real life. Thanks again for your help 🙂

Nice brilliant colors! As I have come to expect from you. It looks great! the one thing I would work on is that core shadow. I think it needs to conform more the curve of the orange. Right now it looks too much like a diagonal line. Bring it down more towards the reflective light. And resolve what is happening nearer top of the shadow.

Your cast shadows are almost there. The values are good. I think the thing that distracts me is the directional lines. I don’t want to see hatching. It needs to be an even tone and shouldn’t end with a sharp edge unless the object has a sharp edge. And even then it will be somewhat soft.

Oh, yes! I see a full range now. I love this part of the drawing process, where you are fine tuning and picking those places you can use contrast and detail make the piece really pop! Good job!

Hi Bettina, I love all the tangling leaves. They give the flower a run for her money! You are getting those great darks now. The only place I would address is the back leaf. It confuses me. I see that is is cracked somewhat. Which you have chosen to include, and that can be fine, but I’m not sure shat is happening with that strong highlight…[Read more]

Hi Ingrid, I see you took Doug’s advice. Looks great! So much more depth and value range. Now I’d like to see more of a sense of light source. Think of the direction of the light. It should come from the upper left over your shoulder, if you are right handed (and upper right if you are left handed.) That cast shadow of the stem on the leaf would…[Read more]

I am right handed and lighting from the right. I don’t have a purple yet but next visit to art store will get.

Hi Renata- I was just looking back at people’s work and saw your note. It might be too late, but personally I like the drawing as is! I think it does not need the opened tulip view.
