So shiny!!! Excellent shine. Really looks like a waxy surface. Make sure the edges are clean, and I feel like the centre can use some more clarity/definition.
-
Thank you for the feedback, @sam-mcwilliams! Very helpful. I will work on the edges and the centre and update you.

Deepened the color in that front pod to try to bring it forward. Lifted some color from the leaf bc I thought it was becoming too important (it looks terrible right now, but I plan to try to make it better). I’m thinking about attaching something to one of those peduncles (or turn one of them into a leaf or something) to curve down toward that c…[Read more]

Wow. It made a huge difference, there is definitely depth now! Really beautiful.
-
Thanks, Renata
-
Love the softness and subtlety here, beautiful!

It’s so beautiful, Pam. I wonder if you’ve posted again and I’ll get to it as I scroll. I wonder if there could be some touch more darks in the inside of that top curled leaf. Also wonder if it would be permissible for some bit of fluff to be drawn blowing across the page – one got free? Wind borne? All the other elements you wrote about I think…[Read more]

You’re going to have such an impressive book. 🙂
-
Love it as usual. Can’t recall if you’ve used any of Jean’s “colour behind the subjects” yet. Something to keep in mind for some pages.
-
Where’s my heart emoji? I like knowing that I’m in Cara’s yard here.
-
I am finding these pages very inspiring!
-
@sam-mcwilliams Sam, thanks for the background suggestion. I tried it during the workshop. I’ll try it now! Thanks for the other feedback, too.
-
Thanks, Renata. It’s been fun and works for me right now with spring busting out so fast!

Good work, Yahya. This is a very nice leaf portrait. I like your colours and the way you have shown shaded area on the outer left and to the right of the main vein. Your shading looks nice and soft. Your cast shadow is also done nice and softly. I think the cast shadow would come out a bit more to the right of the right leaf edge. On your next…[Read more]

Should be called “Tulip Petal on Fire” 🙂 Such a great glow you got here, Mary Jo. And again, way to learn from Vern’s spoon theory.
-
Beautiful, Mary Jo! What is Vern’s spoon theory by the way?!
-
Vern showed us how to use the spoon to find the highlights in the tulip petal-front and back. Hold the spoon in the same position as the petal you are drawing and under the same light. This helps to see where the high lights are. It really helped me because I found it difficult to to see the highlight on the petal that I was drawing.
-
Thank you, Sam. Seeing highlights is difficult for me. This really helped.

Lovely Ingrid, and like Doug said, going darker in your greens will help pop those yellows out. Don’t be afraid to darken them. And yes – true – everyone is challenged by the toning of the yellows.

I agree with the Vern! Beautiful, Pam.

I like the scale idea, Renata, as long as it doesn’t detract from the beauty of your drawing. But it’d be great information. Your colours here are stunning.
