The actual photo shows the green leaf i used to draw this, it took a couple of days so when you see the green leaf here it has already started to brown and shrivel.

Hi Katherine- the green leaf is an interesting subject and you did a great job with it. You could use more toning on the red leaf and I would try to incorporate the embossed lines more. Nice job!

Hi Katherine- the colors are so pleasing and you have some nice pillowing. It looks like you used an embossing tool and there are areas it dominates. Once you use it you are committed, but it could be incorporated more. The cast shadow is very sketchy and I would work on achieving a smoother finish. Nice job!

I can really feel the character of this leaf and the time you took to dedicate yourself to observing and spending time with it. That makes me very happy. Puts me in mind of a writer really breathing life into one of their characters in a story.

This new technique is serving you so well! Way to cross that “gutter.” Looking so good, Sheila.

Beautiful Rita! Such great movement and colour. And the colours so rich on the Kraft. Make sure the stem connects well to the centre of the flower, and also check the width of the stem – does it taper toward the flower?

@sam-mcwilliams, thanks for your feedback. It feels like a fun time to “cross the gutter”, spring busting out so fast. I feel happy to do fast studies and still use our fantastic color pencils and watercolor pencils. Just into going where it takes me right now. Happy spring!!

Thanks, Vern. I need to get a pink page going asap.

Hi Katy, thanks for the helpful feedback! I think the photo made the colours brighter (like I needed it!). I always get confused about where to put this reflective light. Would it be close to the darker areas? I will re-work it with the dark sepia, or maybe start a new one. The peel was the most fun part, loved making those spirals work. Thanks so much!

Thanks everyone! Katherine, I started off by doing a lot in watercolor before putting in layers of colored pencil. I was able to get very fine lines with a very small brush – size 0. And then when I switched over to colored pencil, I waited until I was mostly done to darken the veins were already water colored in, and add more veins. I used a very…[Read more]

Thank you, Sam, for your comment. I hope to get back to the snapdragons soon and will repost. There is so much blooming here that it is difficult to decide on what to attempt to draw next. -

Thank you , Doug, for your positive comments. I just posted another daffodil this afternoon which has noticeable problems. I have a lot to learn. I am trying to focus on keeping highlights, measuring, toning. It is difficult but fun. -

Thanks for your comments. I agree that after I finished the drawing I noticed that the stem would not meet the flower from the angle that I drew it. I. too, feel the bottom petal is too long. I measured numerous times but it still looks wrong. Just finished Wendy’s Drawing and Measuring class last Sunday. I have a long way to go to get things in… -

And you got great range of tones in your yellow golds without getting muddy. Thumbs up.

Hi Bettina, nice even toning. and I can see you working on that cup shape. It is almost there!
I want to see more shadow on the left side of the inner cup. Also, I’m confused about the stem. It seem to get too thick as it appears from behind the leaves Hard to see the follow through to the flower. I’d also like to see more definition of the nice…[Read more] -

Yes, Camille, I love the wrinkly bottoms! You are getting all the nuances that give this pear its character. And nice red blush. Beautiful!

Or maybe use a bit of Dark Sepia for that core shadow. Carefully. I don’t want to see you lose the brilliance of the color.

Great colors! I really like the edges of the cup shape. And your subtle coloration of the white petals! I’m a bit confused about your drawing. Especially the bottom petal. To me it looks too long. Also, though I love the way you have handled the papery quality of the stem, I’m not sure what is happening with the area where it meets the flower.
