Sam, you’re right about the pear calling out every time I walked by my work table. Thanks all of you for the feedback. I feel another pear soon 🙂 -

I’m practicing a watercolor base, some scary embossing, and reflective highlight. Suggestions?

I love it! The reflective highlight reads more like a color change or even a bit of an indent right now. I’m wanting a bit more toning lower right to communicate that curve/volume. Great shine – embossing looks effective to me – just watch out for uniformity. Great job communicating that shiny apple skin, and the patterning is wonderful.

Thanks, Sam. I wasn’t so sure about my “reflective highlight “. I’ll do some toning!

Looking good, Yahya. Now use a very sharp dark sepia and define clearly the right edge/curve of the form, and give some definition to the dark ellipse. Go a titled darker with your dark sepia and the right shaded side. Leave that highlight! A little clear definition will be nice – unless this is really fuzzy. The highlight would probably be a…[Read more]

What is a draw together page? I think it’s interesting to see how the left pedal respects the border-line and how the right pedals cross over the border. Interesting tension.
-
Hi Mary, I am glad you notice some of my subtle compositions decisions that I am always making along the way! A draw together page is referring to our suggesting everyone create a plant study page and herbarium page this month so in effect we are all drawing from the same lesson together

Thanks for the explanation of the on-line community draw. As a total newbie here, I have to say it feels very welcoming for the really advanced artists to be patient and interested in everyone’s ability level. Such a wonderful feeling to be accepted and not like an outsider. Thank you Wendy for creating such a place to learn from the best of the best!

Thank you. I did many leaf backs in order to understand the visual differences. This is the only one that was convincing. Unfortunately that long shadow was needed to be convincing. I will keep trying to render the leaf backs for a while. Thank you for your comments. It helps a lot to propel me forward. -

@doug-milne
So funny that I can go even thinner on the secondary leaves. I evne had that in my mind as I was drawing:) I did have to get another leaf for the front view. Thank you for your help. -

Yes I like the velvety deep dark green you achieved contrasted with the glow of the red and bright greens.

Hi Renata, Again, so luminous and vibrant! A joy to behold!
Glorious purple. Will some darker greens come in on the leaves? I’m going to have to go draw some of these now so I can comment more.
Thanks so much, Sam. I look forward to seeing what you do! I think I am obsessed with purple! Yes, will work on the leaves and finish the flowers. Even though they are already too bright.
Thanks, Katy! But now I am worried that I always make things too luminous and vibrant. Am trying a different one and will post soon (lots of dark sepia in it!).
