Great job Denise! You achieved a great range of tones on the value scale lesson. The arc tone cylinder is almost there. The left side of the highlight is too uniform. The tone should get lighter as it moves toward the highlight. I see you numbered the different tones on the bottom of the cylinder, but overall I am not seeing that range of tones…[Read more]

Welcome to the ArtFeed Denise! This is a good study page! There are so many different ways of doing veins, etc. and so many different varieties of veins, etc. these study pages are invaluable! Each subject we draw is probably going to have some aspect to it that is going to require us to practice different techniques to best illustrate it.

Hi again! As you say, there is more to do on the drawing, but you are off to a good start! It is a matter of going in and keep darkening the shadow areas, both on the leaf and the stem. You can see the range of tones on the stem, which really gives it form, but you can also see how important the highlight is to enhance the form! I also want to…[Read more]

Glad you enjoyed the webinar. I did too. This is looking so much more 3D – great job! Yup I think you could still go a bit darker on the lower left inside of the cup.

Pam, Thank you for the webinar yesterday. It was very helpful. I went back and added more shading to the peony. Feeling the roundness much more than before. When I see it in the photo I think I can go even darker. Maybe! Always unsure when to stop. Also tried to bend the stem a little. I appreciate your thoughtful feedback. @pgthompson

The leaves are phenomenal and the watermelon is so full it’s going to split open! Fantastic!

A farmer gave me this adorable baby watermelon still attached to the vine with leaves attached I’m in love with the leaves! Much more to draw, but this is a start.

This was what I demo’d during our watermelon workshop. I highly recommend grabbing some chunks of watermelon and playing around. They are so fun to draw!

I don’t know what I like best! The texture of the watermelon? The way the leaves feel absolutely 3D? The delicate prickles on the vine? Or the little twirly do? (Would love to know what that bit is called!)
