Greetings! We had 18” of snow last week in our part of the Hudson Valley. Between rain and a couple of warm days the last vestiges of the snow disappeared on Christmas morning. I was surprised to look out in the back yard and see our Christmas Rose Hellebore in bloom. I could not help but feel a comparison to this past year. The beauty and r…[Read more]

Wendy – after looking at your amaryllis I deepened my reds on mine. Thank you and Meery Christmas

Next thing I’ll be trying is Pam’s idea to scatter some other elements around the edges. I’m even thinking about a border, tracing paper first. Suggestions? Very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to all!

I like the addition of the third pomegranate Sheila. It helps balance the drawing more and my eye travels past the seeds and section, which it did not do before.
-
Hi Sheila- I meant to say I like this much better without the shadows on the seeds. Happy Holidays to you too! Praying for a safer and brighter New Year!!!!!!!

yes yes yes yes yes to your changes – I love this drawing.

Hi Shelia, Wow! you really took the challenge! Beautiful! It is so hard to add to an already completed composition.
As far as shadows, think about where that whole fruit sits in space. How far from the branch of leaves is it. Right now the end of the twig is looking a bit like a shadow. As if the pomegranate is touching the branch. I’d try to…[Read more] -

Thanks for the feedback at the monthly meeting. This is in progress, but I’m having fun. Like pomegranates in space, and me, too :). Thoughts on cast shadows from the leaves on the upper left fruit?

Wow, Sheila, you take up the challenge like no other! I am always impressed by you.

I think the pomegranate that is ripe can have much more darker reds and burgundies to pull your eye from it to the dark seeds. Plus most pomegranates do get darker as they ripen.
-
Thanks, Wendy. Yes, I’ll work on it. It can definitely get redder.

@pgthompson thanks, Pam. I really appreciate your feedback. I have added a ripe pomegranate. Not finished yet, but posting it. I like your idea about elements all around! Thanks! -

Doug, thanks for that thought. Yes, maybe better for everything to float. I’m really experimenting with this. Posting the next addition:) -

Hi Sheila! I was just watching the webinar (which I always learn soooo much from btw), and I’m at the part where this drawing is being discussed. It sounded like you are regretting adding the seeds. I just want to let you know that I love the seeds. And I think that adding a darker riper pomegranate in the back like Wendy suggested will make t…[Read more]

Beautiful Jody! I think of holly leaves as being a darker green. Using a dark indigo and dark green are good to achieve that holly leaf color. That would help the Ivy stand out more too!

Hi Ingrid- I love how you have positioned the subject on the page! There are areas where petals and stems overlap where I would go back in with some darker toning to delineate the overlaps and shadows. Great job!
