I’m trying to figure out citrus. I’m inspired by some of you! They are bright a cheery to draw on a snowy day.

Stunners! And hooray to highlights on the banner. Good job! I think your cast shadows are a bit too linear – too much like a dark line – they make the citrus forms flatten or squish down a bit. you can soften them and let them fade out. Nice toning!
-
These look great! You have chosen some good colors for your lemons. The shadow side on the right one is spot on! I agree with Sam that you can soften the shadows. I would rethink the color, too. It seems a bit cool. I’d add a warm color overtop of what you have and gradually extend it out a bit. I love the little sliver of peel. I can feel the…[Read more]

Love Hellebores and your positive New Year message. I wish the same for all my new botanical drawing friends.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I think the reds are better distributed. (And if I ever open a cafe or bookstore or something, I think I’ll call it The Tattooed Pomegranate and use my other drawing for a sign or business card or apron ? 🙂 Happy, healthy 2021!

Thanks, Wendy. Yes, I’ll work on it. It can definitely get redder. -

I think the pomegranate that is ripe can have much more darker reds and burgundies to pull your eye from it to the dark seeds. Plus most pomegranates do get darker as they ripen.

You are loving the Kraft paper, I think. 🙂 Me too. Lovely drawing, I think you can saturate the reds more or maybe get rid of some of the texture so they read smoother like tomatoes, ya? And, on the lowest central tomato, look at the dark line along the edge of the upper left quadrant. That line seems severe – you could tone/gradate that out a bit.
-
ooh so nice, Maureen. Has a dancing quality. I especially like the light in the samara wings, and the lean of the leaf towards them.
-
@sam-mcwilliams yes I love the Kraft paper. I think I’ll go in with more watercolor and definitely soften the edges. It was cool seeing Wendy’s process of building the reds in her amaryllis, my goal is to create variation in tone. Wondering too if I should make one of the highlights more pronounced. Great to hear from you!
-
Yes, those winged seeds are great! I like all the colors you are using. Really gives it depth!

It took me a bit to figure out the pomegranate was tattooed. Very funny!

Thanks. I just listened to Wendy. Although the original closely matched my live subject the rich red color is more consistent with amarylis overall
