Hi Camille,
This is a lovely drawing. You have nice smooth toning and excellent drawing skills. I am not sure what story it it telling, but I am compelled and intrigued! My only suggestion would be to tone the radish with more variety of color. Something more saturated. Especially in the shadows. -

Beautiful use of what we call “atmospheric perspective” Those lighter, flatter background leaves receding nicely and the sharper contrast of the foreground bits pushing forward! Good job! I also love the spring green and the way you have transitioned from green to red.

@sam-mcwilliams Lots of layers but making sure to have a good mid tone of red which I did with watercolor. Otherwise you are having to layer colored pencils for days to get there!

@sam-mcwilliams The key to deep reds is getting dark enough base layers of reds, preserving whatever highlights you need and then getting really really dark with shading. I used watercolor layers to get to the mid tones and then colored pencils and more watercolor on top.

Beautiful point of view, and it feels like I could reach out and touch it.

What red watercolor did you use. Mine all have a pink tone
-
@pat schiebold I used two colors mixed together for my watercolor: madder and cadmium orange

Thank you for the info

Love it

Hi Amanda, so many great things about this drawing: the shine you get on the leaves and berries, the details of the stem, the rich colors! It is quite nice. My main suggestions for improvement would concern the composition. I would have eliminated the bottom stem and instead attached a leaf or placed a few loose berries somewhere for balance. That…[Read more]

That makes sense. Yes, when I look at the drawing I can see how it might need to be broken up, basically to soften the lines a bit. Leaves and loose berries could work for sure. I was being very faithful in rendering the shape of the branch I had cut etc. I’ve since started to learn to be a bit less strict with myself; if I miss or add a leaf etc,…[Read more]

I’ve been a bit MIA (work etc), but thought I’d post an illustration of some rosehips I drew last season and which I’d like to work on a bit more.

Amen. 🙂
You can leave highlights on your banner too! Also, indigo blue pencil rocks the shadows on holly leaves. Good job leaving those bright shiny highlights. Apt quote, indeed. - Load More
