Ok, the milkweed silk is driving me bonkers, so I’m stopping for today. My idea is to do lettering at the top and bottom.

Looks great Sheila! The milkweed silk is fabulous. Looks so shiny and light and fluffy and airy. Love it.

Thanks, Pam. It was very interesting to see how the light hit the silky threads. I wonder if there’s a name for them.

I love it!

This drawing has a very sweet quality. And your drawing of the buds is quite nice. I like the way you have wrapped the sepals around the buds. You could do some more work on the open flowers. Start shading each of those petals. Maybe draw a separate petal on another sheet of paper, so you can establish colors and toning for form.

Hi Cathie, Such a pretty little flower! I love the full range of values over all. And the wide range of colors in the stem. That deep shadow in the center of the flower and the shadow on the stem under the flower really make it pop. I can see you are working on creating a curling petal with the highlights and shadows keep working on that. Do some…[Read more]

Hi Collins- you could draw smoke bush leaves all year and they would be so different. I have some now that are an intense salmon color. Your colors work so well together! I see a lot of pencil lines and I would recommend trying to go slow and get nice smooth layers of color. Most leaves have a light side and a dark side especially along the main…[Read more]

Hi Collins- the branch is really well done! Love all the details you captured! Be careful as some of the leaves have a dark outline. It might be the quality of the post image, but the leaves also don’t have the same intensity as the branch and could benefit from more saturation. Nice job!

Hi Douglass- this is a beautiful page. All the subjects have a delicacy to them and look good together. I’d say you have room for even more! The leaves could use a little more detail and toning in the overlap areas.
Nice job! -

Hi Rita- these leaves are beautiful! There are areas that just glow! I would rethink the cast shadows. I would either have more of a cast shadow from the body of the leaf or I would erase the cast shadows of the stems. Great job!

Hi Ingrid- if this doesn’t represent Autumn, I don’t know what does! Love the range of the leaf colors! There are a couple of areas where I would punch up the overlaps on the leaves. It may be the quality of the image, but it looks like the saturation of the berries on the right is not as strong as the balance of the berries. Great job!!!!

Yes Dora! As Sam said, the highlight is exceptionally good. Great color selection and saturation too!

Hi Pat- this is a beautiful orchid drawing. I saw Sam’s comment on your previous post and see that you have lightened the leaf behind the flower. I think it helps and I would even lighten it a little more. I am still bothered that the top of the petal ends at the top edge of that leaf. That especially gives the impression that the leaf is not a l…[Read more]
