So beautiful. I love the billowing of petals! And the way you captured the variety of pinks! Another one of those drawings I can’t look away from. I particularly like the dark burgundy you get as the petals converge. My suggestions would be a bit more care with the veining of the leaves. It looks like you embossed. I know from experience that can…[Read more]

Hi Katy! Thanks for your kind comments. Did you take this white flowers on Kraft paper class? I will try that rear view although I am a bit burned from this composition 🙂 -

These are beautiful. You have used white on the craft paper very skillfully. Using the color of the paper to create the shadow toning is difficult, but you have pulled it off! I also like that you are showing the flower at different angles. You should do more pages of these flowers positioning them at different angles. Try one from the back!

Beautiful! Thanks for showing us your first apple. It is great to see your development! And I like the added green.

Hi Wendy,Sam and Vern. I am not quite sure if this is the place to load the work from the workshop but I figured you will find it somehow. Thanks so much for this fab lesson. I really, really like the medium of the watercolor on Kraft paper although it is quite a learning curve.

Great job, Elizabeth. You employed all the techniques from class so well here. Beautiful.

Hi Elizabeth, I watched a recording of the White flowers on Kraft paper class and attended the critiques. Then helped Wendy teach the Walk in the Woods class that featured working on Kraft paper, so I can appreciate the skill it takes to work this way. One has to think differently.
-
Oh, I also wanted to say nice job on those thin stems!

These are beautiful!

Hey Sam
Thanks for the feedback. I had to rework these several times. Sometimes not enough white, then too much. Geez. The one thing I realized is that I had to erase the center colors that I had originally drawn with pencil and first apply a light white wash and THEN lay in the color to get it the right saturation. Totally fun but like a whole… -
Indeed but after working a white flower on white paper I like this much better.
-
thanks although I could do a bit more practice on them
-
Thanks
-
I agree – that whitewash technique is a revelation. It really is like applying gesso to a canvas, and we can apply it in different thicknesses and build on top of it with our pencils.

Very pretty and delicate

Thanks Katy. Yes, I agree the leaves need more work!

@pgthompson thanks Pam. I’m obsessed looking for mushrooms now even though I’m taking a break for very red radishes! -

Laurie, Started Wendy’s courses December 2017, and the green apple is from January 2018.
Sam, thanks for the feedback. I think you are right about the stem. It looks odd. I’ll work on that to make it feel more natural. Maybe fatten it up a bit.

I appreciate all the suggestions everyone! I think this is it, even though I found tan, blue green mushrooms yesterday.

I could see this being used as the cover of a book – I’d pick it right up in the bookstore. 🙂

@sam-mcwilliams. Wow, I love that image, thanks Sam. I think it’s the lettering! 🤔
-
Really nice Sheila! Your lettering turned out really nicely!!
-
@cburke Thanks, Carol. I’m just beginning lettering thanks to the lettering class last month. It was fun. Hope you’re well.

@pgthompson thanks Pam. That’s a good image, bursting spores even though the thought of inhaling them freaks me out 😲 -

@sam-mcwilliams thanks for the feedback and suggestion. There’s some drying lichen I’m going to put on the left side. -

Thanks so much for the feedback @wendy @vern and @sam-mcwilliams I will work on the highlight a bit more. I have not done very many cast shadows, except for on more basic shapes than this. So I feel a little intimidated by the cast shadow of this gourd. I will practice on something else. I have many gourds I’d like to draw! Thanks again!

Again, great page Sara! How about trying some practice versions of the cottonwood leaf and solutions for the curl. Do some tone bars and try different colours and grisailles.

Pam this is beautiful. I can feel the shine on that apple and what the apple would feel like in my hand. I’m a big fan of the leaves, especially the lowest one. The only thing that’s funny for me is the straight thin branch coming straight down. Gorgeous drawing Pam.

It looks so great Sheila! Well done. (You could put a little green on the left side of the stick like you have on the right, like across from the top tiny mushroom) and it’ll tie it together and lead my eye back in 🙂 ) Its a stunner of a page – well done!!!
