Beautiful saturation of whites, Beatriz, they are glowing off the page. Great shadows and folds of petals.

Wow, Jill, gorgeous! What a character. I love the addition of the stem – great call Wendy. I like it without the cast shadow, too. Your call. 🙂

I spent a beautiful week in Steamboat Springs CO where I’ve spent time every year since 1979. I had new eyes on the old familiar hikes because I was on the hunt for beauties to draw. Giving a try to botanical art enriched my vacation! Also, I still struggle with leaves. The cottonwood is suppose to curve up on the ends. Im concerned if I keep…[Read more]

Again, great page Sara! How about trying some practice versions of the cottonwood leaf and solutions for the curl. Do some tone bars and try different colours and grisailles.

Hi Pam
Wow that is impressive! Nice to see the comparison of the two apples also. How long ago did you do the first apple? How long ago did you start the course?Thank you,
Laurie -

I love throw Shiela! I want to see spores bursting out of that puff ball 🙂

For comparison, I’d post my first attempt at an apple when I first started Wendy’s online botanical courses. -

@wendy thanks Wendy, going for a little more detail and that’s it. Already started a radish from the farm! Felt like a dose of red! -

@vern Thanks for those suggestions. I was trying to get that pulpy shredded wood, couldn’t get the color. Maybe white watercolor and then some color. Sometimes it feels like my paper is done before I am. Too much erasing? I’ll keep at it. -

Oh, and I did take the advice of adding a little more green to the apple, and will be careful to include more green next time around 🙂

Not happy with the leaves. I have a larger composition in my head, so I’m chalking this up to practice.

Pam this is beautiful. I can feel the shine on that apple and what the apple would feel like in my hand. I’m a big fan of the leaves, especially the lowest one. The only thing that’s funny for me is the straight thin branch coming straight down. Gorgeous drawing Pam.

This is beautiful!

Laurie, Started Wendy’s courses December 2017, and the green apple is from January 2018. Sam, thanks for the feedback. I think you are right about the stem. It looks odd. I’ll work on that to make it feel more natural. Maybe fatten it up a bit.

Really nice Pam!
-
Beautiful! Thanks for showing us your first apple. It is great to see your development! And I like the added green.
-
Love this apple. Beautiful Pam! As someone who has recently started Wendy’s classes it is wonderful to see the development in the comparison of your apples. Maybe one day…..??

I could take a bite. Love your shading on the bottom leaf

what do you think about the colors and the shades ?
And the other draw I sent you in kraft paper do you think it’s ok how I apply the color? Thank you Vern 😊 -

Hi Jill, @jill-amadei: I think the shadows could work, but be sure to add a bit of the stem which isn’t in your photo. Your highlight made smaller is on the way but still can get messed up more by putting some tones inside the highlight so it becomes shimmery rather that a solid light spot. Look closely at your photo to see how you might render a…[Read more]
