Beautiful, Jody! Lovely composition. (I don’t like the stem ending right on the outline, It seem that you are indicating that it is coming from behind the frame, which would work, but be bolder about it. Take that side shadow down to the edge. Over all the drawing is beautiful and your hand writing exquisite! I’m jealous.

Gorgeous – and I love those looping B’s.

Thank you, Katy and Sam!

This is in progress, but I thought I’d post it for feedback at the meeting tomorrow, while the mushrooms are still relatively fresh. A few questions: I lightened the lines for my lettering, but it’s a little uneven. Lighter? More even? I think I’m going to take out the little stick with lichen sketch and go for another mushroom. I didn’…[Read more]

What great trick you pulled, turning that lower left stick into that beautiful mushroom. So fun to watch this progress.

@sam-mcwilliams it’s woodland magic 🤣 appear/disappear. Actually magicalto me are the mushrooms as they are just coming up through leaves and even the gravel!

You have done such a delicate drawing. Very nice.

I gave up on the apple and attempted a pear instead and it really did have a very long stalk.. Will try again to draw an apple as had 2 unsuccessful attempts. Bit embarrassing really but here they are -

Hi Theodora, Nice color and I really like the details on the stem! also the surface speckles are quite nice. I think you need to keep working on toning the spheric shape. This one looks half done. I can see the highlights and the shadow on the dark side. But you need more on the bottom and left side. Especially the bottom. Think about the light…[Read more]

Thanks for you advice. I’ve always had issues with leaving light. I’ll give it a go.

I really like this drawing! Rich colors! And you are getting a pretty good spheric shape. Nice detail work on the edges of the onion skin and the texture of the surface. Also It is very pleasing to look at, my eyes rest on the wide expanse of the surface, then are drawn to the touches of interesting detail at either end.

Thank you. I used a lot of watercolour for this one but still feel there is confusion about which layer is on top. The lighter layer is actually an inner layer but wasn’t sure if shading it would be the right way to show it is an inner layer.
-
Glad Wendy could give you some feedback on that overlap issue. I really am captivated by this onion. 🙂 I gotta go draw one now!
-
Thanks Sam. Looking forward to your onion. @Sam McWilliams

Hi Sam! Thanks for prompt. I mean red violet and dark sepia.. I’ll definitely try it. At this point when I do not have much experience, I draw as I feel)) But it is so comforting to know what to do.

Hi Pam. I really like the separate study of the center of flower. It has a beautiful loose organic feel. And I think you have the right idea to do studies of the individual petals. Do more of them. The drawing of the flower seems correct, but flat. I think you got too dark, too soon and were afraid to muddy the yellow, so held back on shading for…[Read more]

Yes, much better. I’m really liking this now.

Hi Isabel, Nice drawing. You are so good at rendering those individual flowers. And I really see a round shape to the inflorescence. I think you can get some more darks in the leaves and stem especially under the flower,
-
Wow so detailed and beautiful!

Sam, I debated bringing up the bottom lettering. Wish I had, but now I have another challenge… to find something little! Thanks so much for the lettering workshop wit Vern. It was so fun and informative. A total eye opener, actually. And for all the research, tips, and resources you both shared. See you again! -

My wife keeps looking over at my screen while I’m looking at your drawings and exclaiming, “Well, that’s a nice leaf!” Your drawings have such a lovely quality. You could watch Wendy’s Drawing a Leaf with Net Veining videos if you want to be reminded of some of the “formulas” she applies – those kind of tricks she uses to communicate leaf info.

Rita, You did a fantastic job of improving your overall drawing and composition with your lettering. You balanced the page and skillfully used lettering in the gaps to move my eye around the page. Well done – success. And blessings to Jack on his next journey.:) PS – beautiful drawing!

Tulsi Basil in watercolor pencil and paint. Left: Practice page. I sort of goofed up the leaves at the top and didn’t know how to correct so I moved on. Middle: This is tiny. Like an inch and a half. I’m not happy with how dark the leaf in the middle is although it is darker in the photo. I’m not sure how to correct this. Right: mostly happy with…[Read more]
Hi Kristen, I’d like to see a closer view of each drawing. Seems like you have some good stuff going on, but hard to see on my screen. From what I can tell, you are right about going dark, but for my part I like the richness, You just need to be careful building it up. Wendy has a great video on leaves where she is more drawing the space between…[Read more]
