Hi Yelena, Sweet apple! Nice drawing! I really like the way you have handled the variegation and used it to indicate form. I saw from your tomato drawing that you were concerned about getting too dark, but I think you need to get a bit darker on this one. Especially because the stem is so dark. It is distracting. Slowly start bringing in darks on…[Read more]

Hi Ayse, Very nice page! You do have a way with leaves! I really like that you are incorporating the value/color difference of the top vs the bottom the leaf. It really helps separate the leaves and creates a more interesting/lyrical composition. I also like the browns you are bringing in. Those buds are sweet too. Very nice, delicate drawing and…[Read more]

Good addition of color! I see you have resolved the value of the lenticels on the shadow side. Good job!

Nice job, Nell. Your toning is getting so good. I like the full range and the soft highlights. I also like the lenticels, but would tone them down a bit on the shadow side of the branch. I’d also rework the oval of the top cut on the left branch. The side seem a bit pointy. They could be more tapered.

Hi Doug! Thank you for your feedback. I really appreciate it. This is my first colored pencil drawing, so I am at the beginning)) As for the tomatoes, they were really so wierdly looking. This is why it was interesting to draw them. As for the highlights, you are right. I saw them in many places)) And I was confused a little bit by the form.…[Read more]

Nice job Jane! The colors are beautiful and you have a really good range of tones on most of the spheres. The yellow and light orange at the top do not have the same dark tones you achieved on the darker colored spheres. Maybe play with them and see if you can get the same darker tones on the lighter color spheres without losing their bright…[Read more]

Hi Jill-what a beautiful image! It’s shape, which you have rendered so well, has such impact! The toning on the left said is so well done. I feel like the right side could use more dark toning. I would also try emphasizing the highlight on the top of the inner section of the shell. Great job on the patterning too!

Hi Yelena- this is a fun page! The tomatoes are nicely rendered and the color selection and saturation is very good! Tomatoes obviously come in odd shapes, but I would fudge the shape of the tomato in the center. All the other tomatoes have rounded shapes and the severe angle on the one in the middle really throws things off. I am not seeing the…[Read more]

Thank you! And definitely would go darker in a few places as you said. Fun subject once I had the time to get into it! -

My wife keeps looking over at my screen while I’m looking at your drawings and exclaiming, “Well, that’s a nice leaf!” Your drawings have such a lovely quality. You could watch Wendy’s Drawing a Leaf with Net Veining videos if you want to be reminded of some of the “formulas” she applies – those kind of tricks she uses to communicate leaf info.
