I enjoyed these excersises. And I tried to observe closely. Quite happy with the unions, feather and tropaeolum. Apple skin and anemone need a redo.
Feedback always welcome, thank you! -

Great looking pages and studies. Glad you enjoyed – I can tell! Maybe the onion skins can use some more darks? You could try it in a tone bar.

Thanks Sam, good suggestion 🙂

Hi Susan,
I’d even go darker. Especially on the shadow of the top eggplant. Where it is sitting against the other one. You should think about where the darkest darks would be. Where is the light really blocked. Since it is coming from the left, the shadow on the right would be the darkest. I’d also like to see a cast shadow. Especially because…[Read more] -

This is so great! Must be one of the few pomegranate tattoos in existence.

Could you send a photo of the peach. I sense you are trying to indicate the fuss with a “whitened out” color. It could work, but at this point, to me it looks like a flat pastel apple. I think you could add back some color and value to the left side.

Yes, I’d move that highlight lower and to the left.

I think I’ve got some things to work on here. Highlight lower? Top left looks like highlights, but they are yellow areas. Flat looking on the left? I put this fruit on top of a glass for a different view.

I moved the highlight, did more toning and trying not to lose the fuzzy grey.

Thank you so much for commenting so fast, much appreciated. I was indeed wondering if my paper was smooth enough. I am switching to Bristol paper for now. And I added some shadow on the stem, it looks better. Thank you! -

Katy, thanks. I see that white now. I’ll work on that.

I see you also improved the shadow around the stem. Well done. You made an already beautiful drawing even better.

Yes, So much better! Beautiful!

Yes! Better! As I said before nice page! My one comment would be the white in the cast shadow on the eggplant is too much. Shouldn’t go lighter than the value of the paper. Might just be a matter of blending with dark color.

My original donut peach has lost it’s fuzz because I put it in the refrigerator. The moisture changed it, so I bought another peach yesterday to look at the fuzz again. The fuzz is hard to see in a photo, but in person it’s a whitish grayish purple, depending on the color under it and the light on it. Starting to smell very good!
