This is beautiful Marjorie! The colors and saturation are very good and your outside edges look crisp to me. The highlight really conveys the sheen of the tomato. I would add some more dark toning on the right side to enhance its form. I agree with you that the reflected highlight is not there yet, but I also question that you need a reflective…[Read more]

Hi Elizabeth – I love nasturtium leaves and you have done a really nice job on these! Nice mix of green colors! I would use a little more toning on the leaf under the the open flower and add a little more definition to the opening flower on the right. Great job!

Hi Elizabeth – you captured the delicacy of this iris! I feel like the broken off leaf on the left needs a pointy end like the others and a detail of the flower would help the composition. Beautiful job!

The buds are especially nice Ishbel.. I am not getting the tubular effect of the flower and I think the addition of some dark toning in the center of the flower would help.

Hi Amanda- the fruits and the leaf are so detailed and beautifully done. It really makes them stand out. The sepals at the tops of the berries don’t look finished in comparison. I would add a little more toning to the sepals and stems for definition. Beautiful job!

Really nice job on the onion skin and apple Sinead. Your color selection and saturation are very good! I notice that you did not use grissaille toning on the apple before you added your color. Wendy has videos of drawing apples using her grisaille technique, which be worth checking out!

Hi Pam- your cherries are starting to have some form, but still could use more to enhance their form. I suggested revisiting a couple of Botanical Basic Lessons on your original ferry post.

Hi Pam- your cherries need a range of toning on them so they have some form. Refer back to Lesson 4 which illustrated the value scale of 9 tones and then Lesson 10 which showed how to use all those tones on a sphere.

Thanks, Pam. I’m glad you think the leaf and seeds work so far. They were such a different color and texture than the fresh flower parts! -

Attempted to saturate the leaves Doug. Hope I haven’t lost the light trying.
