Thanks Doug…yes, I agree the bits that are further back could use more definition.

Hi Ishbel- great subject! Even though the husk is front and center, it is the kernels on the cob that are the star to me! They are fantastic! It seems like there is some shadow toning missing in spots on the husk and I would add dark toning in appropriate spots on the husk to create more contrast and make it pop more. Love those kernels!

Hi Margaret! It is so nice to see your beautiful work again! I love the movement of this composition! It is really successful for a vine subject such as this! Being really picky, I wish the beginning of the vine and the end of the vine were not so lined up. Wonderful job!

Hi Ingrid- you’re instinct is correct. There should be a range of tones transitioning left from the dark tone toward the highlighted area. This will give the lime it’s form. The colored tone bar you have above the lime is really good and that is what you are striving for on the lime itself. In regards to the reflected light, you do not want it to…[Read more]

Trying to use more water colour. This was from a wet on wet workshop with Julia Trickey.

Hello,
I practiced drawing and coloring a lime instead of a green tomato. I think the darker shadow should have blended more towards the lighter shadow. I’m very curious what you think about this.
Greetings,

@doug-milne Hello Doug, Thank you for your feedback. The tips are very valuable. Because I have not yet learned the techniques of structure, I have not tried to apply it yet in this study. I will practice this at another time.

This is fantastic Jane! It is a wonderful composition with a great variety of leaves and colors! I love how it looks like they are swirling around, which is what they do this time of year! Bravo!

Hello all,
This is my 1st study assignment of a branch. Drawing the leaf buds took me a lot of effort. Still, I think it turned out pretty well. If you have any tips, I would love to hear them.

Welcome to the ArtFeed Eileen! All of your leaves are well drawn and you have made good color matches. You are off to a great start, but what all the leaves from your posts need is more color saturation. It is very helpful to see the actual leaves and see the intensity of their colors. As you add more layers of color (which can also be done in…[Read more]

Wonderful Jane! Those shiny red berries look like they are actual berries that you placed on the page! The leaves in comparison don’t have the same color saturation to compete with the berries. I would work on adding more color saturation and shadow toning to the leaves.
