I hope! I am about to upload drawings I’ve done of some leaves for the “leaf” lesson, but it is also the first page of my sketchbook. Our shrub is drooping fast – I wanted to do a leaf before it all turns brown. I’ll keep a close eye to see what drops off that would be interesting to draw.

Hi there, I got busy with the start of my daughters’ school year but I’m glad to be back here. This morning I played flower detective via Google and learned that the flowering shrub in our backyard that I plan to make the subject of my sketchbook of the seasons is a Lucy Rose of Sharon hibiscus. Looking forward to getting started today 🙂

Hi Vern! I am so happy to be back! I will definitely add more color to the crabapple and work on the leaves, too. I think leaves are still one if the most difficult things for me to draw correctly but your suggestion about multiple highlights makes sense. Thanks so much for your advice on each drawing I posted. It’s been a hard year but I’m…[Read more]

Felipe brought them in, so I didn’t see the bush. I just looked them up though and think they’re chokeberries, Aronia. I’m going to go down the street and see if the bush has any leaves left.

That first tone bar was before I took Wendy’s class. I had been using her book to learn. I really enjoy the online classes. I am learning so much.

I’m posting my November findings/study page in progress. I will add color pencil where I haven’t, but like to have a washy record, too. So far, I think I’m having the most fun I’ve had with botanical drawing, feeling more playful moving around the page and putting things together because the shapes and colors interest me.

Thanks, Carol. Are you coming to the Woodstock workshop by any chance? It’s been a great class and on a historical site, the summer home of the Art Students League.

Thanks Vern. I’ve got a seed soaking because that little seed is still a shell.

I would recommend saturate and brighter the color a bit so the peppers really shine!

Hey Ishbel! Nice to see your work here. My only question is are the leaves the same color green as the pods or should the leaves be a bit more yellow or olive? You would know best as we don’t have these trees here!
Hi Wendy! Yes, the tiny pods are pretty much the same colour except some have a sort of white dusting which I wasn’t too successful in showing.
