Photo in the group The Practice of Botanical Drawing Discussion Board 8 years, 5 months agoHI Carrie, to have a difference between the inside and the outside of the leaf it is often about how the midrib vein is shown. It is much less prominent on the inside of the leaf and perhaps the toning is more subtle and not as much contrast as well. That should help, but otherwise these look great

I went back to the drawing of the lime and worked on Wendy’s suggestions. Also, re-drew the edge of one of the leaves. So important to start with an accurate drawing! Added more color saturation and detail, plus another leaf and started the cut lime. Went back and forth with much erasing in trying to figure out how to represent the inside. I… -

I enjoy your calling it a “fridge subject” and will use that in future descriptions of things one finds to draw in the fridge! -

You are correct in that the back shoud read as smooth. I might try going over those veins with ivory burnishing and see what happens. I hesitate to try to lift. Although maybe that would work with a little tape and lifting the color with a… -
