Welcome to the Art Feed, Bobbi! This is really lovely. It’s very Wendy-esque”. Nice use of contour lines to show how those petals curve. And your petal edges are very nice – good sensitive line. Really lovely drawing.

That curling vine is really cool. There’s one part, almost right in the middle of the vine that looks like it is going through the other stem instead of around it. Do you see where I mean? Was that happening? I love how dark you are getting in the center of the flower – it gives it very nice depth.
-
This reminds me a lot of one of Wendy’s drawings. If it is, it’s 100% okay to practice by copying her drawings, just be sure to mention it when you post. And then practice again with a live subject if you can. You did a great job with these. Really nice 3D form,

Beautiful color variation. Great study.

Ooooh! I love this! Gorgeous drawings.

What a fun study! Really nice shimmery highlights on these. You could still push that 3D form just a bit more on that red one, and maybe the yellow one by getting just a touch darker in the core shadow area. And then, the toning on the stems seem to have the light coming from the opposite direction. I would expect the highlight of those stems to…[Read more]

Nice bright citrus. Be careful to set up your light so that it is coming from the upper left. When you have it set up correctly, your cast shadow will be going behind your subject and off to the right at about a 45 degree angle.. You wouldn’t see the cast shadow out in front of your subject. Its a lovely drawing. Those sections are so nice a sparkly.
-
Nice start. Now get that subject inside a box and light it from the upper left to get that consistent scientific light source info before going further. Can’t wait to see more!
-
This is really beautiful. Very nice toning. You are really good at highlights! They are tough, and yours are beautiful. You could push that 3D info a bit more by getting darker in the core shadow area of the tomato, and toning the step a bit more like a cylinder. You could adjust that cast shadow just a bit. It’s off to a great start. Do you see…[Read more]

I listened to the Monday April 24 webinar and Sam mentioned that there was something odd with how the pistil was inserted in the flower. I looked back at the photo and saw that the stem and the calice were missing. So I added them ( and dirtied the page) and I also added the extension of the bottom leaf.

I was already in too deep to make the recommended corrections to the drawings. However the advice is duly noted. I definitely see how overlapping subjects is more pleasing to the eye. I didn’t use water colour on the pear on the right (again because I had already started adding colour pencil) but I did on the other one. I think that technique a…[Read more]

Hi Patricia- I don’t know if I would have thought of a fist, but now that you mention it. The pear on the left looks great and it definitely has a brightness to it! I understand the hesitation with doing watercolor, but the nice thing with the technique we use is that you go on to finesse the image with color pencil (if you want to). As with e…[Read more]

Good work Heather! The cast shadow is really good as is the apple’s form. I would play up the highlight a little more. I see a pretty white highlight in the photo. You don’t want the reflected light to be as white as the main highlight, but I would make it a little more noticeable. Not too controlled – more organic.

The colors and patterning are great Heather! I think adding a highlight and more of a range of mid and darker tones would really emphasize the apples form. I would add a little more dark toning to the cast shadow where it abuts the apple, but otherwise the cast shadow is really nice!

Hi Sheila- I am noticing the layering on this piece more than usual and the dimensionality really works for this basket of beautiful Spring flowers.

Thanks, Pam. I’m glad the eye is moving better in my “reconstituted “ version. I think I have to watch out for overdoing, filling in too much…. - Load More
Another lovely drawing. Are you planning on taking it further, or this finished?
