This is lovely, Cathie! I love the composition with the solid red of the onion, then the detail of the cross section and roots and stem. You are going in the right direction, but I’d like to see more darks on the shadow side of the onion. Think of core shadow and reflective light. If you have Wendy’s The Joy of Botanical Drawing, check out pages 43-45. She has great instruction on these aspects! In general, think about the light source. How is the light landing on the sphere? How is the light blocked by the sphere? How is the light bouncing back from the table and reflecting on the backside of the sphere? I’d also like to see some more details in the crosscut. It has a nice graphic look now (that I like), but in the context of this drawing, I think more details in the white section would be good.

Love the way this looks on toned paper!
