Hi Jennie- this is a nice rendering. Your color choices are very good! I see some veining on the actual leaf that are more visible than on your drawing. I like to use Verithin pencils for this kind of detail. Good job!
Thanks Laura! They are cool, aren’t they? And the leaves stay nice for a long time, so excellent subjects. Doug, I admit I’ve had trouble finding the Verithin at my local store but will try the bigger store – I know Wendy has black brown and grey in the kit – would you use one of those colors for the veins or would you suggest I seek out a green? Thanks for the next steps!
Greetings! Verithin pencils are made by Prismacolor and are a hard wax. They are great for adding fine details and to burnish or finish off a texture. I always use the corresponding color to go around the perimeter of my drawings. It creates a nice crisp edge and it also seals the edge so there is less chance of smearing. I have a set of multi colors but I especially use my greens and reds. The grey and black are great for doing cast shadows too!
Beautiful! You really captured that graceful shape! I love gingkos, too! In fact I just did a study of a gingko for a sketchbook project I’m involved with. I’ll put it in my portfolio.

The same tree grows near my house. I’ve always loved the leaves. Your drawing is very pretty! And Doug, what are Verithin pencils?

I really like this– I like the movement on the leaf, but also the connection to the stem and the stem itself in particular.
