Jill, I can always tell which drawings are yours- you have such a lovely style. This is just gorgeous. I want to see that center portion look more spherical. Maybe consider adding some more toning to the core shadow area of that center part, and then also lighten up the area where the highlight would be. It’s gorgeous as is, but I think you could get some more 3D form in there.

Wow, Jill. Yes, good advice from Pam re: the 3d shape as a whole. You obvs have the pattern work down, and the colors are incredible. But yeah some more toning to create 3d shape would really make this pop. Try setting your shell into a light box and really spotlight it to see where the main shadows and highlights are going to fall, and then give us a hint of that–no need to go crazy with it, just some subtle shading will do!
I love this subject. I have some gorgeous shells I picked up last winter on Cedar Key Fl which have been collecting dust this last year. You’ve inspired me to tackle a drawing. Bravo!

Yes to what P and V said. Also, I love the colours, and I especially love the ridged lip thats curving towards me. I can feel that texture perfectly.
How do you do these patterns so wonderfully?!!
