Hi Karye, looking good. I think you can still get more darker tones but keep the three dimensional form and your lighter tones as well. Practice on your single branch first! Good job.

@pkhood Karye, this is a great start, and it’s really helpful to see your actual branches juxtaposed with your drawing. I agree with Wendy that you could push these tones a bit darker to achieve more realistic 3-d form. The structure is there, and you are doing a good job identifying the overlaps in your group of branches. I know it’s intimidating to lay on the darker colors, but give it a try! Layer the color on carefully in layers, and remember to gradually lighten up as you approach the highlight. Great work!
Yes, it’s a bit scary to darken up the branches, so afraid of messing up and ending with solid mud. But I will give it a try on this page of twigs and tone them slowly. Thank you 🙂
Don’t worry, Karye, there is NO WAY you can get as dark as I do. It seems like there are too tendencies, too little and too much! I suffer from the latter. We can work to try to meet in the middle!
