Description
RECORDED November 6 & 10, 2022
Instructors: Pam & Sam
Level: All levels
Botanical Subject(s): Colorful Plant Parts
Workshop Description: Want to know more about the fascinating world of color? Join us for a deep dive into color theory, color mixing, color blending, and color matching. Bring an assortment of botanical bits in any/every color, and we’ll try to match them! We will be using Faber Castell Polychromos colored pencils and Albrecht Durer watercolor pencils, but you can apply the concepts to any supplies with which you’d like to participate. We will reference lessons in Wendy’s book, The Joy of Botanical Drawing.
Our workshops include a set of pre-recorded videos for you to watch as you prepare for class, as well as recordings of each workshop session, delivered via email. We encourage collaboration and community, and we strive to create a safe virtual environment for everyone to draw together. We provide live demonstrations on the first day of a workshop and constructive critique of your work on the second day. ALL of the registration and video material for this workshop is delivered to you via email. Please be sure to add info@drawbotanical.com to your email contacts so that you do not miss correspondence from us!
Recommended Supplies: Our art supply guide
These are supplies that we recommend, but feel free to follow along with any supplies you have (your result may just end up looking a little different). Our lessons are about a combination of fundamental 3D art concepts and colored pencil and watercolor technique, so you can skip the supplies-specific tips and still learn a lot about perspective, light source, composition, etc. One of the main points we teach is colored pencil and watercolor technique for slow, continuous toning, but as long as you are able to achieve the same blending result with your chosen materials, you can still benefit from our course lessons.
Recommended Text – Only need one of these books: “The Joy of Botanical Drawing” by Wendy Hollender, “The Practice of Botanical Drawing” by Wendy Hollender, “Botanical Drawing in Color, A Basic Guide to Mastering Realistic Form and Naturalistic Color”, by Wendy Hollender
