Description
RECORDED April 30: & May 3, 2023
Instructors: Pam & Sam
Level: All levels
Botanical Subject(s): Any hairy, prickly, spiny, or thorny botanical subjects. Some ideas – cacti, stems or leaves with hairs, milkweed pods/seeds, chestnut pods, thistles.
Workshop Description: Fine hairs, small prickles, white spines, and sharp thorns are difficult details to portray. Countless botanical subjects have at least one of these pokey parts that present unique challenges for realistic renderings. We will practice different techniques for drawing these subjects with colored pencil and watercolor, including using masking fluid with a dip pen, embossing tools and wax paper.
Our workshops include a set of pre-recorded videos for you to watch as you prepare for class, as well as recordings of each workshop session. ALL of the registration and video material for this workshop is delivered to you via email. Please be sure to add info@drawbotanical.com to your email contacts so that you do not miss important correspondence from us!
We encourage collaboration and community, and we strive to create a safe environment for everyone to draw together. Instructors provide live demonstrations of relevant techniques on the first day of a workshop and constructive critiques of your work on the second day. Don’t be shy! Ask any and all questions you may have; the answers could benefit all participants
Recommended Supplies: For this workshop, we highly recommend buying the embossing fluid, pen nib, and pen nib holder that are in our art supply guide.
Find all of the supplies that we recommend here. Feel free to follow along with any supplies you have (your result may just end up looking a little different). Our lessons are about a combination of fundamental 3D art concepts and colored pencil and watercolor technique, so you can skip the supplies-specific tips and still learn a lot about art basics including perspective, light source, composition, etc. One of the main points we teach is colored pencil and watercolor technique for slow, continuous toning, but as long as you are able to achieve the same blending result with your chosen materials, you can still benefit from our course lessons.
Cancellation Policy: Cancellations at least two weeks in advance will receive a 75% refund. If you cancel less than one week up to 48 hours before the event, you will receive a 50% refund (less 5% processing fee) if we can find someone to replace your spot. Less than 48 hours cancellation, we cannot issue a refund. You will still receive all recordings from the workshop, and you can watch them at your convenience.
We reserve the right to cancel a workshop at any time. If we cancel a workshop, you will receive a full refund.
