Photo in the group The Practice of Botanical Drawing Discussion Board 7 years, 5 months agoHi Pam, I love this composition, it has a pleasing flow. If I was to suggest anything , it would be to add some small element, scattered seeds or scales just in the bottom left of the composition. Then your signature on the right and all is beautifully balanced and flowing. Just a thought!

Photo in the group The Practice of Botanical Drawing Discussion Board 7 years, 6 months agoHey Shelia, love seeing a bit of spring in winter! Perhaps the yellows could still brighten up just a bit. You have become a great observer and documenter of nature! So much fun to see what is going on that is predictable and unpredictable!

Sometimes a failed composition can lead to a much better composition, so great idea to rethink and start over! The process of exploring the power of composition is important and a huge part of the creative journey once you have mastered the basic drawing skills!

Photo in the group The Practice of Botanical Drawing Discussion Board 7 years, 6 months agoHi Shelia, I agree with Vern’s comment and would also mention that I wish the center of the apple where the stem is attached felt a bit more like a bigger indented cone shape area. Photo in the group The Practice of Botanical Drawing Discussion Board 7 years, 6 months agoHi Shelia, this simple composition is lovely. I really enjoy looking at it and think the perspective and drawing is excellent. The shadows are mostly good but still feel as if the picture plane is tilted and not flat. Interesting, now powerful a slight movement of a shadow can be in creating the surface. Did you take a photo of this set up with…[Read more]
