Hi, Vern! Thank you for the kind feedback. The puffy part of the fearher I found it the most challenging to draw… Maybe I should magnify the section for a clearer details. Any suggestions will be helpful. Thanks

Julia, wow. Great drawing. I think it’s always a good idea to use a magnifying glass to see what’s going on in a subject. With that said, I think you did a fantastic job with the fluffy part. You might be able to go in to that area with an ivory or white colored pencil to just lightly add some more translucent bits?
-
Hi, Pam! Thank you for the helpful tips. The aria is already overworked… However, I will use the suggested colours in my next drawing. Thanks a lot.
-
I have also recently been getting into drawing feathers but haven’t reached these heights! I would love to see your process which looks like it included watercolor pencil?
-
Hi Margaret, thanks for appreciation. I have used a bit of watercolor (pencil) but only on the biginning for the initial colours. The most of the feather is done in colour pencil. I didn t really had a plan, I just went with the flow… By the way, your drawings are very beautiful and the Blue Jay feather… a little jewel!

Unbelievable!! This is amazing Lulia!

You are doing a great job of drawing the shapes and colors here. What this needs is some addition of shadow and highlights based on your light source to give it that 3 dimensional feel that we are trying to create. If your light source is coming over your left shoulder at a 45 degree-ish angle, the right side of this whole subject should be…[Read more]

This is a great start. Now take a minute and think about your light source and how to show it in your drawing. For instance, you could use a kneaded eraser to lift out bits of highlights on those stems, and then also use a sharp colored pencil to add shadow along the right sides of the stems – think about the toning a cylinder exercises. You are…[Read more]

This is a study for a zinnia center. Thinking the rest will come next fall when zinnias are blooming again

oooh. I just love mosses! This is really nice. I like how you rendered the general habit of this moss, and how it drapes off of this branch, while also giving us information about the shapes of the individual stemand leaves. I would like to see just a little more color variation. Maybe add some light yellow ochre here and there?

Wow Erin. Beautiful. You really captured the thickness and waxiness of those leaves skillfully. Those little bits of bright white highlights are just perfect. I especially like the very foreshortened leaf. That is so hard to render, and you did it beautifully.

Pat, this is intriguing. I want to know more about it. What is your subject?

Good suggestion Pam. I added a bit of green gold and it is better.

Thanks Doug! I agree about the cast shadows and am adding them. I’ve been learning about atmospheric perspective but I don’t think this is a great subject for that

Yes!!! It has so much more of a 3 dimensional feel now. Great job.
