I like all the different textures in here too – super engaging.

Nice job observing the leaf margins, Cathie. I always find them so interesting. 🙂 Also the colours on the begonia leaf – way to go.

Yes to what P and V said. Also, I love the colours, and I especially love the ridged lip thats curving towards me. I can feel that texture perfectly.

Beautiful, Katy. Delicious toning. Also very clever how the shape of the segments mirrors the shape of the rind. You sure got some gorgeous orange colours here. 🙂

Thanks, Pam. I’m glad the cone adds to the composition. -

Thanks, Sam! Strangely I didn’t notice the shape mirroring. I guess instinctual compositional choices when I was setting it up.
-
I love how such a simple subject can become quite beautiful!
-
Wow the orange segments blow my mind.
-
Thanks everyone! I’m so glad you like it. This is part of my clementine series. Number 10 of 20. I’m figuring, or hoping that practice makes perfect!
-
Such a great idea for a series. 🙂

Hi Karen. I like this drawing. Orchids are so tricky! In so many workshops we advocate taking one apart if you can, and drawing all the parts separately to really understand what they are up to. Perspective and foreshortening will be tricky on these.
-
I will sacrifice the last bloom on this plant and dissect it…..I have Dick Ruah’s book.
-
What’s his book, Karen? I don’t know it.
-
I learned about it from ASBA Conference (I asked a neighbour if I could pick a flower from her garden, to draw, and she turns out to be on the board of ASBA and convinced me to join!). https://www.amazon.ca/Science-Behind-Flowers-Morphology-Botanical/dp/B08FRHR9K9 Dick Rauh was one of the presenters.
-
What an interesting subject. I’m not familiar with this. What is it called?
-
Hey Pam. Not sure what your comment is referring to – the drawings or Dick Rauh or ASBA?
-
It’s called Lunaria or Silver Dollar

Thanks Kate for your feedback . I agree re embossing, I tend to get a bit carried away instead of really observing my subject .

Hi Sheila, I can see you are ready for spring! This page makes me smile and gives me hope for warmer weather! Beautiful composition! I love the way you incorporated the monochromatic dried elements with the bright vibrant leaves and flowers that are so alive!

What a great page! I love the twine! I think you could do more with the highlights on the ribbon. I understand that it isn’t a shiny surface, but it is looking a little flat on those front curls. A soft highlight at the frontmost point of the curls would really bring them forward.
Also, love the leaf doing a backbend!

Hi Fiona, Nice shine on those leaves! And I like the little cluster of berries. I also like your rich darks. You have a good value range. I’d like to see a bit more care with the embossing. Embossing is tricky. It tends to be too uniform. Partly because you are working blind. Try practicing to get more variations in value and width. The lines…[Read more]

Hi Pam, Lovely drawing! I see the lesser contrast of the original leaf and seedpods as setting them back in space. An example of aerial perspective. The two bottom leaves with their strong darks appear to come forward.

Re-shaped ribbon’s fold overs as best I could after workshop critique with Wendy and Fern.

Your leaf and twine look awesome. I think one issue on the ribbon is in the middle roll over. On the green line that comes down from the very top, from under the ‘w’, – that green line when it becomes the bottom of the ribbon in the middle curve should head towards the lower right corner of the ribbon line thats under the ‘&’. Does that make…[Read more]

Again – it’s really fun how you made the writing twist and roll. 🙂
