Hi Cathie, This is a nice looking page! You are including so many elements! I love the warmth and roundness you are getting in the lemons. And the little seeds are great! The one thing that bother me is the ellipse of the cut lemon. Based on its angle, I am seeing too much of the top. That ellipse should be flatter. Or the side view should be shorter.
-
This i s very beautiful, Cathie. Nice colour palette of warms and cools. Engaging composition. The twist and seeds! (That bottom seed maybe got a bit big!) Wendy has a lesson on drawing ellipses in citrus in The Joy of Botanical Drawing, if you’d like to practice.

Hi Konjit, this is a good start. I like that you are using the vertical lines to get some texture. I also see that you are understanding the light source coming from the left. What you need to work on now is more control of the toning. With more control you can really get that cylindrical look. Gradually bring the shadow up from the right. Think…[Read more]

I really like this drawing, Konjit. Keep up the good work!

Hi Doug, Pam, and Katy, thanks for your feedback. I felt there were too many seeds, but thought I’d consider it. They did become distracting. Luckily not glued on:).

This is lovely! The red and green speak to me of this time of year! I also really like the shine you are getting on the leaves. I think the curling leaf seems a bit too bent. That front leaf edge could curve up some, so you’d see less of the the back side of the leaf.
-
Thanks Katy , I agree re the curling. leaf .I need a bit more practice . I haven’t been doing long only since September snd often get tied up in knots with certain skills 😂
-
Curling leaves are a challenge, but you’ve got the concept. Almost there! It’s just a matter of careful observation and practice. Remember the 3 lines: the front edge of the leaf, the midrib, and the back edge of the leaf.

Keep up the good work, Fiona!

Hi Maureen, I love that the needles seem so lively! Like they are dancing.

Sweet little pear! Lovely transition from red to green. My only comments would be that the cast shadow of the could be a bit lighter, softer and diffused as it moves away from the stem. And you could extend the cast shadow of the pear a bit more.

Hi Sheila- I personally prefer this version. I find the one with the additional seeds to be too busy.

The light blue is still a light colored surface, but it probably would not cause as strong of a reflection as a white surface. With that said I would tone that bright area down some.
