Hi Sheila- I personally prefer this version. I find the one with the additional seeds to be too busy.

The light blue is still a light colored surface, but it probably would not cause as strong of a reflection as a white surface. With that said I would tone that bright area down some.

Hi Doug, Pam, and Katy, thanks for your feedback. I felt there were too many seeds, but thought I’d consider it. They did become distracting. Luckily not glued on:).

Hi Maureen, I love that the needles seem so lively! Like they are dancing.

Oooh, agree – so wonderful. So much movement – so fun for the eye to dance around the page. I love that the magnified portion curves back toward the plant. So vibrant, full of joy.

Advice please!
I set these lemons up on a white surface and the part I’m pointing to looked bright. I arbitrarily made the surface blue. Does that area need to go darker now for the composition/light source to make sense? -

Looks so great, Sara. The blue makes the yellow pop. I like the colours you used in the toning of the lemons. I love the orange slice! I can really feel that dried quality!

Yes – that dried orange really pulls me in. I love Doug’s comment – A Charlie Brown Xmas pageant as well, setting the stage for the whole play. 🙂

Good reminder about the basics. I will try to be more patient!

Hi Karen- It really helps to put the toning layer on first before you add the color. Also making sure you are leaving the areas where you want the highlights to be. That way you have the form established right from the onset. As you do add color some of the original toning will become obscured, but you adjust the toning as you go. Your original…[Read more]
