Great color selection and saturation Mary! Also the patterning is very well done! The highlights at the top give the apple a really nice shine, but be careful with the placement of the main highlight. It is too close to the center of the apple and should shift to the left a little.

Hi Mary- as with the sphere drawing, your cast shadows are not in the correct position. Maybe this is due to conflicting light sources. If you are right handed, the botanical standard is that the light is coming over your left shoulder at a 45 degree angle. If you are left handed the light is coming over your right shoulder.

Great job Mary! I think this is the first time somebody has had fun with this lesson! It looks like a close up of woven fabric. Each thread has nice form!

It is hard to have a full range of tones on narrow roots, etc but you have a nice range here to give them form.

Welcome to the ArtFeed Mary! Nice job on the sphere! A couple of areas to revisit. The dark shadow shading should come up the fight side higher than you have shown. Also, the cast shadow is in the wrong position. Judging from your highlight, the light is coming from the left (at a 45 degree angle over your left shoulder) so the cast shadow should…[Read more]

The use of masking fluid for the leaves did not give the results that I hoped for. The fluid is so difficult to apply in thin lines. I did not use it for the bracts and the veining was easier to achieve.

Ah! The dreaded plaid, overlap lesson. It is often very challenging for students. First off, I would not worry about doing the reflected light on this lesson. Referring to the arc bar lesson, concentrate on getting the full range of tones on each cylinder (including the highlight). Also, these are round objects so there would not be a shadow on…[Read more]

This is a really interesting image Maureen! Be aware that each root/tuber should have the full range (if the subject is wide enough to fit the whole range) of tones to convey that the roots/tubers are cylindrical. Otherwise they look like they are flat, which of, some may be.
