Hi Ishbel, What a sweet drawing. And drawing anything white can be a challenge. Good job! My one comment would be to add some more brilliant whites to the highlight areas. It may be the photo, but for some reason the berries are looking a bit blue. Also I’d like to see a touch more darks in the leaves. I think that would set those white berries off nicely.

Hi Leslie, These are beautiful! I particularly like the mulberries. That ripening one is so sweet. And I just want to pick that ripe one and eat it!

Hi Ishbel! Lovely berries, especially the way you placed them on the page. Great subject for Kraft paper too!

Hi Katy. I went back to the photo and there really is a white space in the stamen cluster. I can see however that I could clarify the light source. I am going to give it a try…. -

Thanks Katy. I went back to your earlier comments and the photo. There really was a white space in the stamen cluster. But I see from the photo that I could clarify the light source and will give it. try.

Thanks, Vern. It all felt very fall to me. We keep seeing all kinds of mushrooms with this rain!

Thanks Doug , your comments are really helpful . It was my first attempt at roots and I will take note for next time . I must get out of habit of outlining , I think it was because they were so narrow I felt the need, oh and I forgot all about the cast shadow so will go back and look . Thanks for your help .

Wow this is absolutely captivating and thrilling. And looks super 3D. Wonderful range of greens.
-
Thanks all for the feedback! I DO have to identify which type of lichen it is😂
-
Your drawing is so beautiful Leslie that Picture This recognises it and suggests it is Parmeliaceae. Now to identify which of the 2700 species it is! 😀
-
Thank you Ishbel! I will ask about species with a lichen expert I know at the New York Botanical Garden!
-
Parmelia sulcata! You do know your lichens! Try drawing them…so much fun!

Hi Fiona- your notes are great questions and observations to keep in mind while doing roots! You are off to a great start and there are a couple of things I would point out. Be careful not to outline. Although very narrow you need to do arc toning on each root to convey that they are elongated cylinders. This will give each root form. Look at your…[Read more]

Thank you!! I use an Arteza 9×12 hardcover watercolor book. I’m not sure I’d recommend it for colored pencil work though, the texture is a bit strong!

Hi, @cassandracyr, I love your botanical journal and the stories you include. What brand journal do you use?
