Lovely Dora!

Hi Theodora, Lovely drawing! Your colors are so vivid. And I like the way you are using the natural linear patterns on the leaves and petals to define the forms.

Gorgeous Dora!!! That flower is so crisp and beautiful!!! I feel like I can pick it up off the page! Everything is really good!

Precious!
-
Hi Mary Jo, I love things in threes! Bounty of the harvest? Nice work on the spherical shapes. That blueberry is “precious!” I also like your bringing the red color into the green of your leaves. Maybe a bit much on this one. The red is becoming too dominant and is greying out the greens, I’d add some indigo in the darker areas and erase away…[Read more]

Thank you Sam! I practiced a lot with the writing and want to include text in most of my drawings. Unfortunately this particular plant is a small Ikea coffee tree that will not grow much more nor give fruits. French weather isn’t ideal for it and I don’t have a very green thumb. But I absolutely want to start making more complete drawings with…[Read more]

Thanks, Renata. I’m glad they have a tactile look. There is a lot of handling involved, including smearing the color pencil by accident:) -

Thanks, Sam. I’ll try the wet paper and remind you to tell me about the fan brush trick! -

Hi Renata- strawberry plants have runners that daughter plants grow off of. That could be a nice simple addition (one runner with a small daughter plant) without it getting too complicated – roots, etc. I agree with you that it does not need much more! When I think of strawberry plants I always think of the runners and how they spread.

Yes, I used a yellow watercolor wash on the leaf as well.

I love these scenes, they do tell a summery story and looks very tactile at the same time. I agree with Sam, there is something in the works here!

I adore this character. I want to belong to the same community garden as this character.

I see some evidence of watercolour in the cast shadow – did you do any on the leaf?

These look great, Clotilde. Way to notice your own needs for bringing the shadow into balance with the drawing. Your drawing here has such a lovely quality. Puts me in mind of many drawers/illustrators/painters whose work I love looking at – even a touch of Maurice Sendak in here for me.

Love the Monstera plant. (And its relatives). If you’re up for it – adding watercolour would take away the colored pencil texture and white of the paper – smooth it out and give it a more plant like feel.

I enjoy this very much, Fanny! Your writing is lovely, and as I said before I dig the pillowing on those leaves. Graceful. Hmm, will you add fruit/ stages of beans to tell me more about this plant?

The hue does give it a vintage, or Victorian feel, however, which is a neat style effect. Reminds me of some old postcards. I appreciate the range of colours you got in that rose. Maybe I’d like to see the rose stem continue down more?

Oooh Gorgeous! Shape, lines and colour so beautiful! I agree wth Katy, it’d be fun to see a front and back version. Wow. I adore these. What a magical world we get to live in. Thank you for focusing me in on the amazingness of the sea.

Nice Sheila! Seriously, theres a book or cards or stationary or something in the works here – or a gallery show. Also could be fun to put these on paper that has been treated with watercolour washes, or wetted paper that you let watercolour bleed into and do its own thing…. remind me to tell you a good watercolor fan brush trick next time were…[Read more]
