Being a Californian, this is so striking to me, Camille. I love the water drops. I love that you show the unfolding of the sepals (fused together to form a calyptra), and the beautiful magenta at the base. I love the delicateness and the soft receding green leafs behind. Just gorgeous. Oh California. 🙂

So stunning and delicate, Camille. You’ve captured the feel of those petals and the calyx and stem. Brava.

I love your vibrant saturation on the Kraft paper. It really vibrates and is so engaging. Such a great learning tool to copy. This page goes so well in companion to your colour theory study page.

Yes, Dolores! I am so happy to see that you are working on your story. I am captivated by all these characters and want to see/read all their journeys. 🙂

Love this one, Bonnie. Great colour mixing with your watercolour. I think you can still go darker on your shaded side. Bring in some brown – and looks like you can pump up the saturation of the colour at base of the skin – the part where it reads brighter like a red in the photograph? Also, think about that paper like quality of the skin while…[Read more]

Good work, Bonnie. Excellent studying. Good colour work. Keep working to get those range of tones – highlights, midtones, shaded/grisaille tones.

Hi Katherine. I am such a fan of these branch and twig portraits. Keep up the good studying. Look to render the highlights, midtones and shaded/grisaille sides with your toning and colour. Remember to think of your cylinder forms and what the light does.

Beautiful, Jane! It is coming along so very well. Look at all that fine detail! A beautiful portrait. I’ve really taken a lichen to it. (haha – couldn’t help myself)

So stunning, Pam. You’ve articulated the details so well, while communicating the air-filled volume of the form. Your colour work is exceptional. They are such miraculous aliens! What a blessing to be near a bog. 🙂

Did a color study on a scrap piece of watercolor paper for practice before starting my larger pitcher plant composition. Used watercolor followed by colored pencil. I lost the highlight when doing the watercolor, and I couldn’t lift it back out, so I’ll try to be more careful when I do the larger piece.

Wow, Jane! This is looking so great! It’s like a whole forest in there! Beautiful attention to detail–those folding ruffles, the teeny tiny branching–just, wow. It’s very beautiful.

Yes i want to purchase the set of wooden shapes when you have them available. I have my little box set up with shadow lighting now and plan to tackle more this week. Thank you again for your points and input.
