Hi Marina, I love that you are adding more colors to your drawings of leaves. Also the fact that you have not used one dark line to define the veins is impressive. However, now I think just a few dark lines would work. Only near the mid rib and mainly because they would work well in conjunction with your embossing. Don’t over do it though. Just a touch.

Ok, highlights coming up if I can figure out how to do that. (I drew these tomatoes and leaf at different times. I was trying to be cheap and smash a bunch of stuff together to save paper;)

So even if I see a screaming dark shadow I should not put that in? I have to remember to not always draw what I see as it doesn’t get translated well.

Ok! I will get in there and highlight and darken it up. Thanks Sam.

@doug-milne I had a real tough time with the inside of the stick. I am trying to make the inner part show a stick within a stick and don’t quite know how to do that. There are some really interesting deep and dark holes that look like they were burnt into the wood. Any thoughts?

@doug-milne
Thanks for the feedback Doug. My eye was telling me that the more shadow I added, the less white it appears. Since I do not see a shadow on the stick, I feel like I am losing the essence of the white. I will go back and rework this as you suggested. I so appreciate your help! -

Wow Maureen!!!!! The dried up leaf really compliments the seed head. And that seed head – amazing!!!!!
-
Beautiful!

Beautiful! I really think the cool darks work with this drawing. It’s a delicate balance. You want to keep that warm feel, but add a depth to the dark shadow areas.
-
Oooooh. So moody. Love it.
-
@vern it was a fun project, so many snowy “goldy” specimens to choose from in our yard and by the river
-
@doug-milne I took my time with the seed head, used tracing paper for measuring then enjoyed observing patterns and lights and darks. Hope you guys are keeping warm, finally out of the minus 30 here so maybe spring isn’t too far away!
-
@katylyness I really enjoyed your indigo idea in seed head and leaf interior. Thanks for your tips!
-
@ishbel thank you, hope all is well on Salt Spring!
-
Such a great drawing! I’m glad you liked using the dark indigo. I always like to throw an unexpected color in to my drawings.

Oooh this little buddy is really showing the effort of resilience needed during these times isn’t it!? A visual poem. 🙂 I love it, Maureen.

Hi Bettina, Nice drawing!! I can see you are carefully observing the nuances of the growth patterns. To complete this drawing you need to bring in some dark values. I want to see more of the curve of the stem. That cylinder shape. Also look for the darks in the buds. That triangle where the leaves meet and overlap.

@dougmilne Thank you Doug! I enjoyed studying the branch, so interesting to see different phases of growth … but it was a challenge to draw and I wish I could have painted more of these details of growth… needs a bigger seize, next time 😊

Fantastic Mary! The colors are details are so good. I would suggest darkening the toning on the right side edge. It looks lighter than the left side edge and it should be darker because it is further away from the light source.

Hi Sandra- the petal color is spot on! These flowers also have such intense color in the centers. I would add some more dark toning on the petals surrounding the center to make it pop more. I was thinking you did a drawing of this flower in Greece too?

This is very striking Ingrid! It is beautifully rendered and I really enjoy the pops of color on the grey tones of the branches!
