Shadow much better. You could even extend it out to the right a bit more. Near the base and very gently.

I agree with Sam. At this point it would be hard to go back and pickup the highlights. Next drawing try what Wendy suggests and draw a single petal on the side of the page as practice to work out the values and colors.

Hi Doug,
I thought I would forward my husband’s description of my art since you mentioned its moderne feeling: The stark realism of Pati’s art belies the transcendent forms. These botanical forms float in space leaving their earthly form in an ethereal atmosphere. The clean modernist interpretation, which at first glance is direct in its realism,…[Read more] -

Hi Wendy- this is a great page! I particularly love the highlight on the curved section of bark on the right! You have also really captured the leaves too. They really have that look of disintegration after they have been on the ground after a rain. Great job!

Hi Pat- this image cuts off part of your cob, but it looks great this way too. It has a very contemporary look to it. You did a wonderful job with this drawing!!!!!

I enlarged the kernels on the profile of the cob. Iβm not sure it is enough.

Beautiful Pat! I admire your patience to do all those kernels! You are fortunate to have have such a great support system in your husband! A wise man indeed!
-
Beautiful work, I really enjoyed reading your hubby’s interpretation too, just lovely

“Last call” indeed. I agree with Doug. I I feel the withering! So fragile. And nice observation on the twig’s growth patterns and winter buds
-
Beautiful and inspiring.
-
Yes, I can really feel the paper like disintegrating quality of those late fall leaves. A perfect capture of a story of the season

Appreciate the input from everyone, it helps me a lot. I hope we have a future class drawing lichen. I tried to show it lifting off the wood with slightly curled up edges but I didn’t quite capture what I was aiming for.
-
(Shh, don’t tell anyone yet…We are going do lichen in Feb) π Wendy you are really killing it! That unraveling bark is fantastic. You inspire me. π

I say move on and keep doing more! And you can ask yourself: Am I getting my darks in? Have I chosen where to leave/put my good strong highlights? Do I have a full range of values from dark to light in my tone bar and in my subject? Have I defined a nice, clean edge with a sharpened pencil? Have I clearly shown my overlaps? Draw on.

Sara, you are such a poet! I love reading the comments on your drawings. Also beautiful drawing the colors are very etherial. My one comment would be to add some more elements to the page. It seems a bit weighted to the bottom. Love that you used the seeds for your O’s!
Katy, I’m not a poet at all. Those are lyrics to Dancing in the Moonlight, one of the best feel good songs ever! I also drew it on the day of a full moon. Its not important, just satisfying.
