I’ve been wanting to work on a mushroom ever since the workshop that I couldn’t attend. This is an oyster mushroom/seta that is very common in Spain. The shadow on the right mushroom too heavy?

Beautiful Sheila! It looks great on the Kraft paper! I think the cast shadows are good!
-
Thanks, Doug. I like the Kraft paper, but it’s softer than the white paper and I’m digging into it which makes it harder to erase!
-
Fantastic! Those gills are awesome
-
Shadow doesn’t look too heavy to me. Beautiful – so good on the Kraft paper. Shows us why they are called Oyster Mushrooms – really looking like oysters here. 🙂
-
Thanks everyone for your comments. My “reply” disappeared and now it’s back. I enjoyed those gills because I got to really play around with the different colors to depict the grooves.

Thanks, Susan! I’m glad the fuzzy stuff shows up. That’s help of the embossing tool and wax paper. -

Just wonderful! You are rocking composition! I love the spikey leaflets with the round fruit. And your stem and leaflets have that slight fuzzy look of the plant.

Finished the cherries. I did make an executive (artistic!) decision and add more magenta and madder than is apparent in the real cherries, otherwise I feel the finished look would be so intensely dark….

The cherries look great Amanda! Your execution of the highlights really make the cherries shine and enhance the form.

Thanks Doug!

Looking good Sinead. Do you have a Cadmium Yellow Lemon polychromo pencil? I can’t tell from your photo of your color bar of greens- it can be a good addition. Maybe the green got a little dark overall? The dark sepia and the red sphere look great to me.
-
Yes, that green did come out very dark. Did another sample using lemon yellow

Thanks! I did indeed mean Damascena (Nigella), so will edit. I’ll try the CO Green for sure, hadn’t considered that – am assuming that would go between the cast shadow sepia and the green of the pod.
Thank you so much for your suggestions -this gives me something to be moving ahead with! So glad to have you as one of the instructors.

I know, they do look a bit like skulls! Probably not a very good photo of the drawings, I’ll put up a photo of the real thing. They are whole cherries, and I am trying to show shine. I’ve got a lot more colour to add on to the second and third cherries as I’ve only just added base shadows at this point.

Thank you Eleanor. It’s just on regular sketchbook paper but I have the recommended watercolour paper on order. Used dark sepia for the top range and pencil for the rest

It is a really nice composition Sheila! There are a couple of areas on the tomatoes that I would add some more darker toning both for form and to delineate where some of the tomatoes meet. A couple of them blend into each other. Great job!
-
Doug, thanks. Yes, I see what you mean. I’m going to work on those places.
-
We definitely held off eating this branch until I got the “green light “! See you all Monday online!

Thanks, Eleanor! The turned up tops reminded me of an ailing starfish I saw that same day. - Load More
