Hi Doug, this is a study. I’m warming up for a branch of blossoms! White petals are a huge challenge for me. (Well, all petals are actually)

Doug, thanks, yes a petal USA great idea. There are still several growing in the planters.

Trying again with the milkweed. Not quite finished. But thought I’d try to get it into the webinar for advice.

First drawing of a daffodil in Polychromos earth green. Decided to keep this sketch for reference rather than add colour.

First attempt at a daffodil using some water colour. Turned out a bit rough and ready but did not want to overwork the yellow colour!

Doug, here are chirimoyas we bought yesterday. We buy this many so we don’t fight over them. They’re ripe when they’re darker and soft to the touch. When we found them in a grocery store in New Paltz, the taste was terrible, so I suggest you wait until you get to Spain!

Crocus first attempt. I enjoyed exploring the form of the leaves which were quite different.

Reedmace or bulrush. Not sure if quite dark enough.

Thanks Doug. Didn’t mean to bombard you with this drawing but wanted to finish it as well as I could before gifting it. I really am very appreciative for all your advice.

Hi Sheila-just for clarity, when I said the “whole” fruit, I meant the fruit that is not cut. I didn’t want you to think I meant that all parts of the fruit needed toning.

Hi Liz- you are off to a good start! With the cylinder, there are a couple of spots to revisit. I am not sure what you used for a model, but it looks like the perspective is off. I think the bottom needs to have more of a curve. Make sure the highlight is the color of the paper from top to bottom and it should also curve up onto the top. The…[Read more]

Hi Ginny- your cylinder is coming along. The transitions are much smoother! I think you could still lighten both sides of the highlight a little more. Look at the right side again. The toning is not consistent so there is lighter section just before you reach the middle (from the top). The branch is looking good. Be aware of the highlight. There…[Read more]

Hi Sheila-I had to look this up because I had never seen it before. Custard apple – that sounds delicious!
Your drawing is beautiful! It looks like I could just pick the fruit right off the page! The fruit section is particularly impressive! I feel like the whole fruit could use a little more shading done on the left side to enhance the round…[Read more] -

Hi Sheila- is this a study for a future drawing or just something you wanted to capture because it is so prolific there? Everything is nicely rendered!

Very nice Shelia- I like how it fades out at the bottom. Very delicate with beautiful colors! Are you thinking of adding anything else? A petal detail maybe?
