Working on the second young lemon, struggling with how to balance the need for shading/toning and the light greenish-yellow of the immature lemon. The photo doesn’t show the right color.
Greetings Lucille! The lemon you have all ready colored has really nice form and color. I think it is very successful! I can’t tell what color you have used for the grisailles on the left lemon. As you say you don’t want to use something too dark that will muddy the yellow color of the lemon. Using earth green or another green shade for the base toning helps keep the yellow color brighter. I notice that the current toning does not have much range. That is fine as long as you add the range as you add the color so you achieve the form you did so successfully on the right lemon.
