Description

Botanical Illustration Intensive Workshop on Kauai (Hawaii)
at The National Tropical Botanical Garden

This workshop will be hosted by our Draw Botanical instructor, Sam McWilliams, who accompanied Wendy for 5 weeks of drawing in paradise this past February and March, and has assisted with the Draw Botanical Kauai workshops since 2019. As Sam will be on Kauai in early August to participate in the famous Na Pali outrigger canoe race, Wendy and Sam thought it the perfect opportunity to offer another chance to draw in our favorite classroom on the planet, and NTBG agreed. Furthering our good fortune, the super-talentedĀ Harriet O’Donnell, Botanical artist and Draw Botanical art feed/community member from Australia, will attend as a supporting instructor. This workshop is perfect for all levels – beginner through expert. Come join us to draw in this incredibly beautiful setting, whether you seek step by step instruction, or just want access to stunning plants, a beautiful workspace, and talented community. Hope to see you there – Hana hou!

NTBG botanists and staff will be available to help with garden excursions, understanding botany and other aspects of plants. We will all get to visit NTBGā€™s incredible Rare Book Room, housing botanical drawings and prints from the 17th century to present, an experience not to be missed.

Our Drawing Workshops are designed to fit the needs of students of ALL LEVELS. Workshops are a great way for beginners to receive lots of one-on-one instruction and feedback in a supportive environment. We will provide structured group lessons for our beginners. For the more experienced artist, workshops are a way to make time to focus, continue to advance your skills, and create more-detailed work in the company of other skilled artists. And everyone has incredible access to the stunning gardens.

Prerequisites are not required for this workshop, but if you want to gain confidence and build some foundational skills before attending, we recommend completing the Botanical Basics online program.
